Sharing Experience on Hotel Booking and Tips for Finding Discounts

1. Clearly identify your needs and budget for choosing a hotel

Before determining your needs, you need to make a list of the participants, meaning those who have confirmed their attendance and those who are still undecided. For those who are still undecided, I think they should proactively make their own reservations. Why? Because the plans of the group should not be affected by 1 or 2 individuals. If you book too close to the departure date, the room rates may increase (I will discuss this further in part 2). Additionally, there may be a scarcity of rooms in locations with beautiful views and good services that the group had previously targeted. Therefore, when making the participant list, you need to be quick and decisive!

  1. Clearly identify your needs and budget for choosing a hotel.
  2. Hotel booking experience:
  3. Compare and carefully check information about hotels.

Booking this room would be suitable for a group of young friends or colleagues. If traveling with a family of 3-4 people, booking this room would result in significant savings. Once you know the number of people, how many males and females, whether they are single or married, and if there are small children accompanying them, you can determine your needs right away. If it’s a group of single young friends, you can consider renting a large room to accommodate multiple people together. If there are girlfriends or couples in the group, you should consider single or double rooms for them. For families with young children, you can rent a room for 4 people, ensuring that the parents can take care of the little ones. For families with older children who can sleep alone at night, there is another option available in some hotels: a family room for 4 people with two separate bedrooms. By choosing this type of room, couples can stay together with their child while also having some “privacy” for themselves. In my opinion, most families prefer and choose this type of room. Additionally, if you have a large extended family with multiple generations, you can follow the following approach when booking hotel rooms: Each couple can book a double room for their own privacy, while the rest of the children, regardless of age, can share a large room with 3-4 beds, accommodating around 10 people. The older ones can take care of the younger ones and have fun together, except for the very young ones who will still sleep with their parents.

2. Hotel Booking Tips:

It is advisable to proactively book your hotel room in advance. This is the next hotel booking experience you should keep in mind. Based on your room type requirements and the number of rooms, you can estimate your budget. The price primarily depends on two factors: the number of days you will be staying and whether you are traveling during peak seasons. If you are traveling during peak seasons (local festivals, blooming season), be aware that hotel room prices can be at least double the usual rates. Here in Dalat, traffic congestion can be an issue, so to save time and money, it’s recommended to shorten your travel duration and focus on sightseeing efficiently. It’s best to avoid traveling during peak seasons. During holiday periods such as Tet (Lunar New Year), Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day, April 30th, and May 1st, if you are lucky enough to find a room, you may have to squeeze in with the crowd or pay high prices for average quality food at local eateries. Why bother getting caught up in the festival crowd and experiencing unnecessary exhaustion? If you still want to travel during those periods and enjoy a family vacation, consider the following experience. Book your hotel room early, preferably 1 month to at least 2 weeks in advance. This way, you will have better control when requesting time off from work and planning your trip.

3. Comparing and thoroughly checking hotel information:

When making a hotel reservation, I usually check the following information:

  1. Hotel address: It’s important to thoroughly check the location of the hotel before making a reservation. Is it centrally located? If not, does the hotel have a restaurant that serves lunch and dinner? How much do the meals typically cost, and what kind of food do they offer? It’s crucial to consider both accommodation and dining options for a great trip.
  2. If you’re planning a beach vacation, check if the hotel is near the beach and if there are any nearby bathing areas.
  3. Contact phone number for making reservations: Especially during holidays or the Tet festival, some hotels may require a deposit to secure your reservation. Having their contact phone number, and preferably their name card, is beneficial.
  4. Parking facilities: If you’re traveling by car, it’s important to notify the hotel in advance to arrange for parking.
  5. Pay attention to check-in and check-out times, as well as any other regulations to avoid unnecessary charges.
  6. Check if the hotel’s location is close to the city center.
  7. Make online reservations and keep an eye on newsletters for discount codes and promotions from booking websites. These platforms gather hotels in hundreds of tourist destinations nationwide. This is a useful method that saves time when searching for accommodation in unfamiliar places. It also supports online payment and eliminates concerns about price gouging or scams that may occur in certain locations or during holidays like Tet.
